From Photos to Video

How to make a time lapse video from a series of still photos in Windows Movie Maker? Read on!

Once you have the photos, you’ll be wanting to turn the individual photos in to a time-lapse video.

This can easily be done in Windows Movie Maker (which comes included for free with Windows XP/Vista etc)

  1. Set the default duration for photos to be way less than the default 5 seconds – otherwise the time lapse will be boringly too long:
    1. Go to Tools – Options
    2. Click the Advanced Tab
    3. Set the default Duration for picture to be 0.125 seconds rather than 5 seconds
  2. Import the pictures:
    1. Go to File – Import in to collections.
    2. Go to where your images are
    3. Click on the first image image, and on the keyboard press “Ctrl A” to highlight all the images.
    4. Click on ‘Import’
  3. Put the photos in to the Timeline:
    1. Click on one of the images
    2. On your keyboard, as before press “Ctrl A” to highlight all of them
    3. Left click and drag and drop the images on the timeline at the bottom
  4. Test
    1. Pressing play should play your new time-lapse video!
  5. Export
    1. Go to: File – Save Movie File
    2. Go through the wizard to save the file as a video file
