Zachs website is redferriswheel.com and these videos are 720p High definition .mov files – all available to download for free.

The videos are great for day to day use – where you want some color and a little movement happening in your backgrounds but don’t want to be distracting to the congregation.

Zach seems like a top bloke – more in his website.

As a result, there are people making video loops for this purpose. They tend to be in HD resolutions and an wmv format. It occurred to me that these may be useful for use in Church settings… and it seems many are!

Google search for something like ‘dreamscene video’  and you’ll find websites with these videos to download. Most of the time they are free and the license is quite open, and just limited to ‘non-commercial’

I’ll post again later on with more info on how I got on with the software and hardware – but overall it was very good, having 8 channels of video to mix with is great, and the ease of use makes selecting videos quick… during one song I did have 7 layers of video in use at the same time!

I started mixing VHS tapes (eg the original Images for Worship VHS tapes from onbd.org), with a Panasonic MX50 mixer connected to a couple VHS players. This was great with lyrics keyed in over the top…. I started doing this about 12 years or so ago…

Now I have a growing collection of video files and have been looking for the best way to locate, mix and control video mixing of these files – mpgs, movs etc…

I have recently been using 2 laptops with their SVIDEO output connected to an Edirol video mixer, and then connect the output of the edirol to a projector.

However, I’ve been looking for a better solution, and I’ve decided on this:

Software Mixer: Arkaos Grand VJ

MIDI Controller: Livid Instruments Ohm64

They are currently on order, but the idea is, that the software can mix 8 channels of videos, and apply effects etc and more, and using the MIDI controller will make make the physical mixing/settings etc quick and easy…

I’ll post back with how it goes, I have an event on March 28 at which I’ll be using this…

There are points in worship, particularly  loud youth events, where the song is about Jesus and it would be great to overlay the word ‘Jesus’ over the top in time with the beat… These videos may well help you, they are quite simple, but they are here for you to download and use for free.  You can probably change the speed in your VJ software to match the beat of a kick drum for example. They are on a black background so you can luma-key the videos over something else!

These are designed to loop, so you can play then again and again and again…

I wanted to make a moon rising in the sky type video -- not to be used on it’s own, but used with other videos when ‘VJing’. Feel free to download and use this where you like! The moon rises from the bottom left corner and moves across the screen to the top right corner.

Names of God Video

Names of God videos are quite popular and very useful for projecting on big screens or walls etc… I decided I’d spend some time making a few loops -- I’ll use them myself and I’ll also over them for free for others to download and use however they like…

Information:

This video fades and scrolls various names of God across the screen, and another version the grow in size as they fade in and out. The names are all in the same font, they are in various sizes and move in various ways -- left to right, right to left, up and down -- you get the idea! The video is 1 minute 23 seconds long, and is loopable -- as in the end frame matches the first frame, so you can play the video endlessly -- if you wanted to!

I’ll be using this video and videos like it to project on to walls, I suspect I’ll adapt them, so expect more to follow!

The sound track was something I picked up at http://binarybeats.com -- it may not work for you, but I’m sure you can change it!
